山崎蒸溜所

山崎

Since 1923 — 島本町, Osaka

Yamazaki was founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii as Japan's first malt whisky distillery. It stands at the foot of Mt. Tenno where the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers meet — a humid site chosen for maturation. Diverse pot stills yield a wide range of spirit, and casks of Japanese mizunara oak give a signature accent alongside sherry and bourbon wood. Paid tours run by reservation; the Yamazaki Whisky Museum can be visited free (reservation required), 10:00–16:45.
